Student did a simulation of Gregor Mendel’s experiments with pea plants. Instead of using pea plants, students used fictional organisms called reebops. Watch and listen to the slide show to see what mechanism controls the inheritance of reebop traits.

The banner to this website is somewhat plain and boring. I want the artistically talented students to create a new banner for the Zenith Website. You can create it using photoshop like software (paint.net is free and so is gimpshop) or hand draw it on paper. Here are the rules/conditions.
1. Size: It must be 780 pixels wide x 200 pixels high. If you hand draw it, it means it should be 8 inches wide x 2 inches high.
2. Writing: The banner must have space so the Zenith Academy (For Zenith Students and Parents, blog, comment policy) writing can be easily seen on the left side. The banner’s colors should allow the white writing of the afore mentioned items to show up easily.
3. Imagination/Creativity: Make something that is unique and simple.
Winners will be selected by the academy teachers. The top winner will receive 3 green tickets (and his/her creation will be used for the website), with honorable mention winners receiving 1 green ticket each.
Deadline: Please email the attached entry (please save it as a jpeg file) to dfix@rocklin.k12.ca.us or turn it into Mr. Fix by Friday February 29. Good luck!
Update: You can submit 2 entries maximum.
Update: We have 1 entry submitted so far, 2/25.
Update: We have 3 entries submitted, 2/29, 8 am.
The homeroom teachers in Spring View are collecting money for the “Pennies for Patients”. This money will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please send money with your students. The last day is March 29. Those in Mr. Fix’s homeroom, thanks for your donations. We are up to $59.87. Remember if we get up to $150 ($3.50 per student) we’ll have a donut party during 5th period!
Update: Zenith Academy collected $208.56 total! Great job!
During the cell unit students learned how cells unlock energy in food. More specifically in the mitochondria oxygen reacts with glucose to release energy, carbon dioxide and water. In the video below students got to observe yeast cells doing this process. Bromothymol blue solution turns yellow when carbon dioxide is present. Watch and listen to the video for further explanation.
This is a rare extra credit opportunity in science. Play the slideshow to learn how to do it. It’s worth up to 10 extra credit points. Last day to submit 3/14.
