Todays CNN student news was mostly about hurricanes and predictions for the whole hurricane season. A small hurricane hit land called hurricane arthur. They said that if a larger, more damaging hurricane hits the bottome states (such as Alabama and Mississippi) it would not only affect that part of the country, but the WHOLE country as well. The port that was hit by hurricane Katrina and Rita is protected but these upcoming hurricanes could harm our economy badly
Also, they were talking about how outrageous gas prices are now. Some high school students boycotted these prices by riding horses around. I think that this sohws that right now, our economy is decreasing instead of moving forward. By this I mean that instead of moving forwaard and improving, our economy is moving backwars in a way- people, as a reaction to inflamation, are boycotting. As there was a Great Depression, we might be moving towards a Great Recession.
Also, people are worrying about Quake Lakes and evacuating thousands of people. Quake Lakes are when lakes swell and flood.

I can not believe that a hurricane could damage Port Fourchon and make the gas prices increase by 10 celebraties are even complaining. I also can't believe that crude oil is 25 percent of the cost of the gas that's amazing.
There is a quake lake in China from the devistating earthquake that happened last month and it is inbetween two mountains and looks like it had distroyed a small town under it. The earthquake also destroyed many mountains and some of them fell into the quake lake and made a dangerous cliff making it difficult to get down there. the earthquake completely destroyed all of Beshwan County and if there was a building still standing it was just standing up. The district has not even cleaned any of it up.I can't believe thatthe earthquake destroyed so many structures and took so many lives. I'm starting to think about what would happen if that happened hear, but it wouldn't and I hope it wil never happen again. So many kids our age died in the earthquake, it's devistating to think that that actually happened. but it did and all we can do now is help with the red cross fundraiser.
Back in the U.S. Kennedy is getting out of the hospital from a tumor removal from his brain. That's all the important news that I heard from CNN student news. See Ya!

Because of the exposed coast line in Louisiana, a hurricane could wipeout most or all of the oil mines there causing gas to shoot up five to ten percent. If this happens then most of America could be affected and not only those who own a car. Kids would start to walk to school to save their parents money on gas. It’s also horrible that this could ever happen because if it did, the economy would go up with the hurricane.
To stop this from happening, many people had great ideas. Thee girls decided to ride horses to school so they didn’t pay for gas at all. Many others are starting to buy smaller hybrids, to save gas. Many others are walking or riding a bike which is also a great idea.
Unfortunately, there was a disaster killing many with many still missing. A crew wanted to see a quake lake formed by sink holes and dammed rivers. Many local work crews are trying to move debris out to bleed these lakes and save the citizens below. On the way down they also found one of the most haunting scenes ever. There was a giant land slide and nearly covered the buildings below. Locals say that thousands were still buried under the rock and dirt.
Back home people were having a fun little concert on who could be the next Elvis, not that anybody could replace him. People tried to dress like him and sing like him, but try it the key word there. It was truly hilarious and was a fun way to end a sad story.

Today's video on CNN student News is about how hurricanes cannot only destroy living areas, but also gas prices. Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita both have caused gas prices to rise because of the repairs needed on cities that were affected by Katrina and Rita. The second part of this video is all about how teenagers are getting craftsy and looking at new ways to get to their desired destinations. Instead of driving a car, some have even been taking horses as a ride to the places that they want to go. The third part of the video is about how China has been trying to find ways to stop the Olympics in Beijing. Many have died from an earthquake and their bodies might cause diseases to go through China. News reporters have been trying to find a way to see quake lakes in China. A group of them found a way to get up one mountain. They had no other choice than to walk. They all made it six hours after starting the climb.

The CNN student news was very interesting to watch. Overall, there were three main topics that were talked about. The first topic was the unfortunate rise in gas prices. Next, was the country's economy and the affect of gas prices after a natural disaster, such as a hurricane. Finally, experts talked on the affect of an earthquake in China that caused a "quake lake".

During the discussion on the first topic, many people expressed their feelings to the absurdity of the gas prices. Because many people cannot afford to pay such high amounts, some high school students have come up with creative ways to get to school. For example, one girl said that her truck was a "gas guzzler" and she was tired of having to go to the gas station over and over. So, as a result, she decided to start riding her horse to school. Soon, many others followed her example.

Second, many experts discussed the effect of Hurricane Katrina and the damage that it had done. Many believe that if another hurricane were to damage another place, the economy will struggle greatly. For example, some experts believe that gas prices might rise even higher, making it extremely difficult to travel to different places in a vehicle.

Finally, a team from CNN was shown hiking up a mountain to get to China’s newly formed "quake lake". As they filmed the lake, the crew noticed bulldozers making a man-made river to drain the water. The lake was formed during a quake in which the mountains moved slightly, allowing water to flow in, and then closing and trapping the water inside. Through the quake lake" and the other topics, I was able to learn more about the news and current events in the country and world.

In CNN student news I learned many interesting things. First I learned that hurricanes have a big impact on gas prices. In 1985 two hurricanes, Katrina and Rita hit the major hub which supplies 20% or 1/5 of all oil in the United States. Those hurricanes sent that oil supply off line which in turn led us to look elsewhere for a supply. This drove up the price of gas since it is produced from oil. During the hurricane 50% of the people were not prepared.I also learned about quake lakes and how they are happing in many place hurting the population. This is what I learned.

The first topic talked about on CNN Student News was on politics. In the political world right now democrats and republicans are arguing about whether the Florida and Michigan votes should be counted. The reason why they wouldn't be counted is because they voted before it is allowed. Votes are supposed to be cast after the first Tuesday in February. Michigan however, voted on January 15 and Florida voted on January 26. At this point their votes are not being counted and both states got all of their delicates taken away. Barrack Obama was not even on the ballot in Michigan. Supposedly, Clinton won both states with more than 50% of the votes.
The second topic they talked about is still related to politics and the primary election but it's not technicality in the United States. It's in Puerto Rico, which is not counted as a US state. It's a territory of the US. This means that residents there can not vote for the presidential election but they can vote for the primary election. In the end, Clinton won the majority of votes in Puerto Rico.
The third issue was about the fire that started blazing a couple of days ago in Universal Studios. The fire started in the back lot in Universal City. Firefighters got the fire under control but not before it destroyed several sets and a King Kong exhibit. The fire even threatened the MTV Movie Awards last night because they were supposed to be in Universal City.
The fourth subject that was addressed was in the Kennedy Space Center. The space shuttle, Discovery went to the international Space Station to deliver parts from a Japanese science laboratory, a pair of robotic arms, and parts to fix the only toilet in the station that wasn't working.
The fifth theme they discussed was about Prince William joining the Air Force. They have now said that he is joining the Royal Navy in England. It was also stated that he will probably be going on a warship to the Caribbean’s. The ship is called the Iron Duke. William can only join the ship if he passes a safety course in June. It was said that he will be in no dancer except for the fact that he is going in the middle of hurricane season. He will be training with helicopters, ships, submarines and tower operations. The official for the Royal Navy said that it's good for Prince William to get to know his forces before becoming king. The official also said that Prince William will get no special attention. He will eat the same food, sleep in the same bunks, and share the same night shifts.
The sixth and finale thing they talked about is the annual Nathans Hot Dog eating Contest. The qualifying was held in Overland Park, Kansas. The main event is in Connie Island on the Fourth of July. The winner that is going to the final event ate 24 hot dogs with the bun.

On CNN Student News today there were many topics that influence the way we as a nation live today. Some of the topics were politics, universal studios, Prince William’s duty, and Nathan’s famous hotdog eating contest.

The world of politics is very hectic and confusing sometimes and the candidates probably agree. The DNC decided not to count some inputted votes. The state representatives tried to change that. They did everything they could to get the committee to count votes from the states of Florida and Michigan.

Also in the world of politics is who has the right to vote and who doesn’t. Puerto Rico can’t vote necessarily but they can vote for state primaries.

Another topic in politics is who is leading in each party. In the Republican Party McKain is ahead. In the Democratic Party Obamma and Clinton are ahead. These three are neck and neck for the one to be president.

Universal studios have made many horror, tragedy, action, and comedy movies. What they didn’t expect was to have an own horror in their park. There was a fire that happened at the park a few nights ago. They got the blaze down to a minimum but it still happened to destroy a main tour exhibit, King Kong. Also MTV movie awards were planned to be filmed there that night so their plans were destroyed too.

Prince William has decided to help this country out by enrolling in the U.S. Navy. He is going to visit the iron duke. He will go through junior officer training in the upcoming months. It will teach him parts of a submarine and helicopter. Prince William, though, has high worries set in front of him. He will be sailing during high hurricane season. William is a prince but won’t be treated like it at the navy. He will be treated like any other person. He will have to carry on all responsibilities like: dishes and sleeping arrangements. Prince William will not be getting any special attention.

Another topic happening in our world is a famous hotdog-eating contest. Nathan’s hotdog-eating contest is being held in Kansas this year. The winner of the smaller round was Eric. He ate the most hotdogs, twent-four, and is qualified for the main event.

Mr. Imrie!! I gave a comment on May 29th but you never graded it.
I was wondering if you ever got it? Because.. its still "waiting moderation."

The stars * mean I didn't how to spell it.

Ok, so I watched a video on June 2nd about the presidential compaign and not letting Michigan and Florida vote, Puerto Rico not being able to vote, the fire at Univeral City, the Space Shuttle that rocketed off in Florida, Prince William's Navy Duty, and the Hot Dog eating Contest.

The first clip I watched about was the presidential compaign trail. Puerto Rico voters went to the polls to vote. So, back in January, Michigan and Florida held presidential primaries, but the democratic party didn't approve so they punished the state by taking away their delegates*. Many people in Florida and Michigan protested to have the right to vote; and to count their votes like any other countries. Senator Bill Nelson fought for the right for Florida. Senator Carl Levin fought for the right for Michigan.

The next clip I watched about was about how Puerto Rico is not a state and cannot vote in the general U.S state. But, they can vote presidential primaries. They then talked about the people running for president. McCain*, Clinton, and Obama. They also talked about the issues in America. Such as, gas prices, economy, immigration, War in Iraq, Gun control, health care, and taxes.

In Universal City, in California, there was a fire. Fire fighters got the fire under control but it damaged many things. It destroyed several sets and a King Kong exhibit. It also threatened a MTV movie awards; the show was scheduled to take place in the univeral lot.

In the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, a space shuttle rocketed off. The space shuttel is carrying parts of a Japanese science laboratory and a pair of robotic arms.

Next, was about Prince William's Navy Duty. He just wrapped up a tour with the royal navy. He might spend his time in a navy uniform and on a warship on the carribean*.

In Overland Park, Kansas, there was a hot dog eating contest. A lot of people did it, if they ate enough in a matter of time, they will be qualified for the main event.

I have learned so many things watching this from the CNN student news. I was well- informed about what was going on in the world.

Mr. Imrie!! I gave a comment on May 29th but you never graded it.
I was wondering if you ever got it? Because.. its still “waiting moderation.”

The stars * mean I didn’t how to spell it.

Ok, so I watched a video on June 2nd about the presidential compaign and not letting Michigan and Florida vote, Puerto Rico not being able to vote, the fire at Univeral City, the Space Shuttle that rocketed off in Florida, Prince William’s Navy Duty, and the Hot Dog eating Contest.

The first clip I watched about was the presidential compaign trail. Puerto Rico voters went to the polls to vote. So, back in January, Michigan and Florida held presidential primaries, but the democratic party didn’t approve so they punished the state by taking away their delegates*.

Next, was about Prince William’s Navy Duty. He just wrapped up a tour with the royal navy. He might spend his time in a navy uniform and on a warship on the carribean*.

I learned many new things by watching CNN student news. First, I learned that voters in Puerto Rico are taking to the polls as the primary season starts to wind down. I also learned that the residents of Puerto Rico can not vote in the general U.S. presidential election because it is not a state but a territory owned by the U.S. Second, I learned that a fire broke out in a Universal Studios lot and destroyed many sets, a King Kong exhibit, and threatened the MTV music awards. Third, I learned that a rocket was launched into space, carrying parts to repair the space stations only toilet. Finally, I learned that Prince William has prepared for a Navy Deployment and will be trained for two months on a war ship called the Iron Duke in the Caribbean. Overall this report was very informative about news and events that are happening right now.
